My husband and I are always on the best cheeseburger, hot sauce, and onion rings when we visit Rochester. We were referred to Don's Original and so glad we went. Went to the one Penfield which had the pub so you can get all types of beers. Faculty is clean, service is good, and price is right. My husband and I both Ordered the cheeseburger w sides of fries and onion rings. The ground beef was so flavorful and juicy! The hot sauce was tasty. Wish they'd toast or grill the hot roll. Fries were good but the onion rings were out of this world. You can tell they were hand dipped and cooked to order. The menu was extensive so I'd try the wings and other dishes next time.

Super slow service. Nice waiter but sloooow. Chips are stale...beware. Rest of food was good.

Made two visits to Don's. Don's has a fast food restaurant in the front and a quaint restaurant/sports bar in the rear. Interesting concept. The food was good on both visits. The staff is courteous. The wait time for food in the restaurant/sports bar could be faster. There is an opportunity here. The fast food restaurant is not extremely fast either, but it's acceptable. The burger I had was really tasty and certainly an upgrade from local rival establishments. Will I return? Absolutely. Good food and a pleasant staff makes it easier to overlook the small stuff.

This place just works. It is a good neighborhood diner, for breakfast and lunch (or dinner) and it has an attached neighborhood bar, with a kind of sport bars look, on the side and back, with an outdoor patio (albiet next to the parking lot : | ). They have a choice of "plates" for fans of that, and a good choice of draft beers for fans of that. It is not a brew pub so don't expect 68 beers on tap, but they do have a good variety of about 18-20 beers, with most importantly, when I visited, Guinness Extra Stout : ) Yum! A decent fish fry, as well as all the standard menu favorites for any Rochester family diner. It can get a little crowded on Fridays during the dinner and after work hours.

Good food. Good atmosphere. A much better choice than the new Jeremiah's down the road. During warm weather there is A very pretty patio. Service is good. Price is right. The salads are as good as the burgers.n

Classic. Not the best garbage plate in Rochester but a nice all around experience. The outside seating area is nice just wish you were allowed to bring your dog.

Don's is a Rochester classic and they are keeping well alive. Their plate and their hot sauce may not be the absolute best in town but it's one hell of a package. For folks just visiting Rochester you can get a good variety here, not just the "garbage" plate.

We recently moved nearby and one of the first things I wanted to do was check out the Pub. I'd been a fan of Don's Original on Monroe for many years and the idea of a pub inside a Don's Original seemed oddly intriguing. I was half expecting to find that they just added a few taps to a normal Don's so that you could get a pint of beer with your ground steak. Not that there would be anything wrong with that in my book. Much to my surprise, they've got a full-fledged sports bar/pub in there, with a very strong selection of beers on tap (all hail the Scotch Ale!). The decor isn't anything to write home about, but the bar itself is nice and they've got the requisite HDTVs on every vertical surface. If you're looking for a clean, unpretentious hangout with great food and a relaxing vibe, this is it. Speaking of the food: I've been three times now and have been impressed with the quality of the food each time. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since food is really Don's core competency, but it's a major step up from the grub you'll get at most sports bars. The wings in particular were impressive - crispy, meaty, very hot (I ordered them that way), not drowning in sauce but not dry either. Easily some of the best wings I've had in town.

I liked my burger I got but I didn't like how my bill came to $15 for a burger a drink and fries. The fries weren't that special either. Other then price this place isn't half bad

I've gotten takeout here several times and it's decent food and consistently good. It's got a very Rochester feel and offers food similar to what you'd find at Tom Wahls/Bill Grays. This location has a small bar in the rear and I've only been in there once or twice. They serve the same food, but it's rather cramped in there.

We went to the Don;s Orriginal The Pub. Great service, we went for the wings. They were roaster wings, ok but nothing special. The bar area is nice and is set up seperate from the traditional Don's Orginal in the front of the building.

Pretty good food, but a couple hiccups during my visit. To start with, the service wasn't all that friendly. Both the hostess and the waitress hardly smiled or anything. There was a water ring on my table before I got there which grossed me out just slightly. I was told they had New England clam chowder that day, so I ordered that, but what was brought to my table was Manhattan clam chowder. Could be a simple mistake, but I don't like the Manhattan style, personally. It was also very salty, so when the waitress didn't check on me until I was almost done with the meal, it had gotten to be unpleasant. To me, customer service includes taking initiative, not only helping diners when they ask for it. Anyway, it seems like the norm for a waitress to check on someone a few times while they're there, especially with it being almost dead in the restaurant. The last hiccup was when I ordered a burger - you get a choice of a side, and the waitress assumed I was ordering the soup as this side. I'd ordered the soup first and then the burger, so I would think she could ask me what I wanted as a side for the burger, but I suppose I could've asked about it, too. Once she brought me my bill, the waitress became much more warm toward me. She promptly brought me my change in ones. Overall, I wasn't at all impressed with the place and would rather go to the nearby Tom Wahl's or...well most any place in the area if my experience was going to be repeated at Don's Original.

Don & Bob's was a steady part of my diet as a child, for better or for worse. I developed a preference for Zweigle's hot dogs and honed taste for fast food. When the last Don & Bob's closed, I went to Don's Original. What sets this place apart from other fast food places and regional restaurants is that nearly everything you buy here is fresh! Want onion rings? They're gonna be hand cut and battered. Ice cream? That's made in house. I consider Don's Original to be part of a Rochester fast food trifecta, which also includes Tom Wahl's and Bill Gray's. While I don't have a preference for any of them, I have a deep seated love for each of them that makes me grin every time I come home and pass one by.

This place is great. It has a burger place in the front with an ice cream shop and then a full service bar restaurant in the back. Great customer service and great food!

Service good and food good. Has a full bar. Ice cream place, in front. Mostly fast food and a few other items, without the counter.
